Westport Team Wins 10/11 State Softball Championship

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Little League's 10- and 11-year-old softball team defeated Enfield, 16-0, to win the state championship last week in Newington.

It is the first Little League title for the Westport softball program. Westport dominated Enfield in the winners’ bracket final, 14-7, after opening the tournament with a 13-3 win over Seymour.

In the championship game, Westport used eight hits and 10 walks to win via the mercy rule.

The players on the team are: Sami Levin, Ali Green, Julia Grimes, Sophia Alfero, Maddie McGarry, Erin McWhirter, Natalie Schenck, Catherine Connell, Madeline Howard, Erica Fanning and Ellie Klein. Coaches include manager Mark McWhirter, and assistant coaches Lou Alfero and Andrew Klein.
