Westport Softball Divas Knock Out Rivals for Title

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Diamond Divas Junior division U14 softball team captured the fall district title Sunday with a 9-7 win over Stratford Riptide, a team the Divas lost to three times this season.

"Coach Peter [Perry] and I couldn't be more proud of these girls for their accomplishments this season," said head coach Adam Adelkopf. "The championship upset over longtime rival Stratford Riptide was a spectacular finish to the season and included key contributions from everyone along the way."

The Divas clinched their victory with a home run and five RBIs from game MVP Maya Mandell, three RBIs from Hannah DeBalsi and one more from Colby Siegal. Strong pitching by Emily Lustbader and defense by Gabriela Perry and Robin Adelkopf helped secure the win.

On its way to the championship game, the team, made up of girls in grades 7 through 10, also beat a Darien team in the bottom of the 7th and Easton.
