Westport Rowers Help Norwalk River Rowing Win Regatta Medals

NORWALK, Conn. -- Rowing into a tough headwind from the north and an equally strong current, the Norwalk River Rowing Association’s Youth team won five medals, including three golds, and the Masters team won two gold medals, in the Head of the Riverfront Regatta in Hartford on Sunday.

Gold medals went to Kris Petreski (Pound Ridge), who won the men’s first junior single by 1.2 seconds; Petreski, Chris Martensson (Norwalk), Oliver Peacock (Wilton) and Kaare Andersen (Pound Ridge) in the men’s first junior quad and Peacock, Kevin Lenihan, Brad Spiewak, and Matt Rauccio, with Jamie Fagen as coxswain (all of Wilton), in the men’s second junior four-plus.

Martensson and Andersen won a bronze medal in the men’s first junior double.

For the girls, Natalie Partlow (Westport) and Kelsey Ritchie (Wilton) teamed to win a bronze in the women’s first junior double.

In the masters, a gold medal went to the women's quad –of Jennifer Nicasio, Lisa Gregory, Katherine Gallagher, and Lisa Sanders, all of Norwalk.

The Mixed Masters 8+ also won a gold. That crew consisted of Juliet Brocki (Norwalk), Laura Case (New Canaan), Cliff Desouza (Norwalk), Don Loomis (Darien), Bob Walker (Darien), Phil Negus (Norwalk), Elisabeth Stonehill (Norwalk), Peggy Danneman (New Canaan) and coxswain: Malcolm Watson (Westport).
