Westport Rower Named USRowing's Junior Athlete Of The Year

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Grace McGinley of Saugatuck Rowing Club in Westport was named the Junior Athlete of the Year in the USRowing Association's Fans' Choice voting.

Grace McGinley of Saugatuck Rowing Club was named the Junior Athlete of the Year in the USRowing Association's Fans' Choice voting. She finished her season undefeated and helped Saugatuck win the Varsity 8 at the Youth Nationals in June.

McGinley had an undefeated season in 2016, winning every regatta including the San Diego Crew Classic and a the USRowing Youth Nationals title in the varsity eight with Saugatuck. She currently holds two world records for her age group in the 5k and 2k erg time and finished fifth in the eight at the 2016 World Rowing Junior Championships.

USRowing’s Fan’s Choice Awards embody excellence in rowing by showcasing top performances over the current year. Seven winners were nominated by and voted for based on their contributions to the sport and achievements on the water.

McGinley and other winners will be honored at the sixth-annual Golden Oars Awards Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 17, at the New York Athletic Club in New York City:
