Westport Rolls To State Title, Plays Friday In Regional

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport Little League won its first state championship over the weekend and begins play in the New England Regional on Friday in Bristol.

Westport defeated Coginchaug in the best-of-three state championship series by scores of 8-2 and 9-1. Westport is scheduled to play the Vermont champion, South Burlington, in its first game of the Regional on Friday at 8 p.m.

Westport will also play Sunday against Maine, on Monday against New Hampshire and on Wednesday against Massachusetts. The top four seeds from six New England states will play in the semifinals on Thursday, Aug. 8. The New England championship game is Saturday, Aug. 10. The New England winner advances to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

Westport is 12-0 this summer. It trailed for the first time early on in Saturday’s game against Coginchaug. Westport has allowed only 17 runs in 12 games.
