WESTPORT, Conn. The Westport Police Athletic League will conduct tryouts for its boys and girls basketball teams in grades 5 through 8 this month.
Tryouts, which will last 90 minutes, are set for two dates. Players are required to attend both so they can be evaluated fairly. The Westport PAL travel program strives to maintain the proper balance between competitiveness and fairness. The objective of each team is to develop individual skills and team concepts while giving each child the opportunity to play and contribute.
All games have four eight-minute quarters, and PAL has instituted guidelines that call for the younger teams to play each player a minimum of 12 minutes a game. The oldest teams may at times have their boys and girls play a quarter of a game to an entire game.
Players should preregister at WestportPAL.org. All tryouts will be held at Bedford Middle School. Visit the website for up-to-date tryout dates and other information. For more information, contact PAL Basketball President Howie Friedman at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 203-454-3881.
