WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Police Athletic League eighth grade boys team went 2-1 in games last weekend to improve to 7-5 for the season.
Playing in the most competitive division in the Fairfield County Basketball League, Westport dropped a tough 48-47 game to New Haven on Saturday. Westport also beat Wakeman of Fairfield, 60-41, and Stamford Youth, 60-43.
Westport went 1-1 in the Billy Lovett Holiday Tournament in New Canaan, beating the hosts and losing to Shehan of Bridgeport.
The eighth grade girls team also split games last weekend, beating Stamford 34-29, and losing to Ridgefield, 37-30. Westport won six straight games to start the season and is now 9-2 overall and 2-2 in the league.
The seventh grade boys team went 1-2 last weekend, beating Brookfield, 38-32, and losing to New Milford, 47-37, and Greenwich, 50-30. Westport is 3-10 overall and 3-2 in the league.
The seventh grade girls went 2-0 last weekend to improve to 5-3. The girls are 5-3 overall and 3-3 in the league entering games this weekend against two teams from Newtown.
The sixth grade boys won a pair of games last weekend to go to 4-2. Westport beat Norwalk Youth, 50-20, and Newtown Gold, 58-38. Westport is 4-2 entering a busy weekend with games against Greenwich, Carver Center of Norwalk and St. Theresa of Trumbull.
The sixth grade girls are 3-3 after beating New Canaan, 21-15, and losing to Monroe, 29-21, last weekend.
The fifth grade boys beat the Westport YMCA in a non-league game last Saturday, 44-29, and lost to Ridgefield in a league contest, 43-35. Westport is 5-4 overall.
