Westport Girls Youth Basketball Roundup

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport Police Athletic League 7th-grade girls basketball team won two of three games last weekend to improve to 9-8 overall in the Fairfield County Basketball League.Westport defeated Shelton, 37-20, and Monroe, 57-24, before dropping a 48-47 overtime decision to the Fairfield PAL Storm. The team is coached by Westport police officers Ashley DelVecchio and Erin Shaw.

Julia Brower, Ashley Constantino, Virginia Gehrig, Amelia Hunt, Grace McGinley, Claire Meehan, Charlotte Rossi, Rachel Seideman and Olivia Troy played well all weekend for Westport.

Three tough opponents are on the schedule for Westport this weekend. The girls will host New Canaan on Friday before traveling to meet Weston on Saturday and to take on Norwalk on Sunday.

Westport 5th-grade girls: The Westport PAL 5th-grade girls split two games, beating Shelton, 25-22, and losing to a strong Newtown team, 34-10, in the Fairfield County Basketball League.The girls play Wilton on Saturday and Trumbull on Sunday. Westport is 8-7 overall and 5-3 in its division of the league.

Westport PAL 6G : The 6th-graders stand in second place of the A Division with a 10-3 overall mark and a 7-2 division record after winning three times last weekend.Westport beat Brookfield, 28-24, and then swept two games against Wilton, 39-29 and 35-34.

Westport plays Ridgefield twice this weekend.

Westport PAL 8G: The girls lost tough games to Stamford, 44-19, and Shelton on th weekend. Wesport hosts Fairfield PAL on Friday and travels to meet Wilton on Saturday.
