Breaking News: Felon Caught With Firearm During Fairfield Traffic Stop, Police Say

Westport 8 Falls in Battle Against New Canaan

NEW CANAAN, Conn. — Under Saturday night lights, Westport’s Senior 8 Wreckers were led onto Water Tower Field in New Canaan by captains Jack Zapfel and Jackson Ward. The starting offensive line of Connor Mathewson, Harry Garber, Jack Schenck, Sam Arciola and Grant Moberg blocked well for the Westport running game. The defensive line of Matt Flinn, Zach Arvanitis, Dan Cozzi, Bobby Becker, Jackson Ward and Brandon Schock worked to shut down the New Canaan runners and pressure the quarterback, holding them scoreless in the first quarter. New Canaan scored two quick touchdowns in the second quarter and the Wreckers went into halftime behind, 14-0.

In the second half, the Wreckers forced New Canaan to punt on its first offensive possession. Evan Gilland returned it 70 yards for the Wreckers first and only touchdown. Connor Adrian's extra point was true, putting the score at 14-7. At the end of the third quarter, a well-timed interception by Ryan Nicholas gave the Wreckers a chance to even the score. But the offense could not close the deal, and instead, New Canaan added a third touchdown in the final quarter of play.

Next up for the Wreckers is Fairfield Senior 8 Red on Sunday.
