WESTPORT, Conn. – The Westport PAL seventh-grade boys basketball team finished the regular season on a nine-game winning streak as it enters the Fairfield County Basketball League playoffs.
After losing its first eight games of the season, the team coached by Vinnie Rissolo and Andrew Strauss rallied to finish 12-10 overall and 10-2 in the league. Westport, which finished in first place in the Jack Callahan B division for the regular season, opens the playoffs on Saturday in Stamford.
The seventh-grade girls team coached by Chris Scholz begins playoffs Saturday in Danbury after finishing 9-8 during the regular season.
The Westport eighth-grade girls team finished the regular season 15-5-1. The girls open the playoffs on Saturday.
The eighth-grade boys team finished 12-13 overall. They start the playoffs Saturday in Weston.
The sixth-grade girls (8-6) meet the Stamford YMCA in their first-round playoff game. The sixth-grade boys team finished 11-7 and opens the playoffs Saturday at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull.
The fifth-grade boys team finished 15-7 and plays on Saturday in Easton in its first playoff game.
