Westport 6 North Wrestles Ridgefield into a Tie

WESTPORT, Conn. ? With a perfect defense, the worst that can happen is a tie. The 6th Grade North Wreckers proved this again as they recorded their second zero-zero affair of the 2011 campaign.

Westport did not give an inch against Ridgefield without a fight. Brandon Adrian, Ryan Burg, William Grotto, Andrew Warshavsky, Robert Wehmhoff and Owen Skinner all recorded tackles in the first half. The offense was able to move the ball effectively, but was stopped short twice on fumbled pitches.

In the second half, Westport racked up some large gains when Jack Beck and Harris Levi found running room behind solid blocking by Jackson Valente, Alec Burns, Ian Cooney, Trevor Williams and Shane Rabacs. Max Lonergan hooked up with Clayton Crouch over the middle to move Westport into scoring position, but the Ridgefield defense eventually stiffened.

Max Pappas and Jasper Fowel defended passing efforts by Ridgefield to help close out the game. It wasn’t the prettiest game ever seen, but remember, defense wins championships.
