Weston Youth Teams Host 'Cheer Extravaganza' Friday

WESTON, Conn. – Weston kids in kindergarten through eighth grade can get a look at Weston’s cheerleading programs this Friday.

Weston Trojan Youth Football and Cheerleading is hosting its second annual Cheer Extravaganza at Weston High School’s new gym from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Coaches and current members from the youth program and the Weston High School squad will offer demonstrations and answer questions for kids interested in joining the program.

"The Cheer Extravaganza was a huge hit last year, and is a great way for the kids to learn more about Weston’s youth cheer program,” Kelley Coleman, head coach of the Weston High School cheerleading team, said in a press release. “We hope to see lots of new faces, as well as the squads from last year, at this fun event which will include several dance and cheer demonstrations.”

Weston Trojan Youth Football and Cheerleading will play in its second season in the Fairfield County Football League this fall. The organization has football and cheer teams for kids in grades 1 through 8 and allows kids to gain experience in the sports before they arrive at the high school programs. The players compete against teams from Darien, Fairfield, New Canaan,Norwalk, Ridgefield, Westport and Wilton in games ranging from flag football to full tackle.

Registration is already open for WTYFC’s football and cheer programs this fall, through June 30. For more information, visit the club’s website.
