A dip in the pool in summer is relaxing for most people, but breaststrokes and butterflies mean business for Weston Swimming. The team was well represented at the recent 12-and-Under New England Regional Championships held at UConn with swimmers placing highly in several events.
The boys 10-and-under relay team of Griffin Levi, Josh Franco, Brandon Berger, and Mitchell Levi took home first place in both the 200-meter freestyle and medley events with times of 2:29.11 and 3:00.27, respectively. Levi also took home gold individually in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:43.85. Garrick Tsui took the top spot in 50-meter freestyle, clocking in at 31.95 seconds. Charlotte Proceller was the highest placing girl for Weston, finishing second in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 35.60 seconds. Proceller also grabbed a second place finish in the 50-meter backstroke.
Other notable finishes for Weston in the weekend competition include a third place finish by Josh Franco in the 50-meter butterfly, a fifth place finish in the 100-meter butterfly by Patty Kohn, and fourth place finishes by Brandon Berger in the 50-meter freestyle and the 100-meter breaststroke.
Weston Swimming team members head to Weslyan University in Cheshire tomorrow, July 29, to compete in the 2010 Long Course Age Group Championships.
