Weston Skiers Rack Up Wins

Weston High's boys ski team remained undefeated against Class S competition and improved to 12-1 overall in a meet last week at Mount Southington. Weston's girls and the junior varsity teams also had strong performances in the competition.

Ryan Vogel (11th), Alex Merberg (12th) and David Gardell (18th) led Weston's boys in a meet that featured 180 boys. Peter Robbins (23rd), Chase Pomerantz (24th) and Eric Schanzer (25th) rounded out Weston's lineup. Weston finished fourth out 11 boys teams competing.

The boys junior varsity finished second of 11 teams and first among Class S schools. The top four Weston skiers finished among the Top 15 out of 80 boys. Kieran Wrynn (second), Cam Hagen (third), Mac Christopher (10th) and Benson Kante (15th) were Weston's top skiers. Jake Knopping and Alec Nimkoff also scored for Weston, whose 318.67 score would have finished fifth in the varsity race. Weston's jv team is 4-1 against Class S teams and 11-2 overall.

Weston's girls finished third of 10 teams and first in Class S. Freshman Shelby Merberg finished ninth and Bonnie Guthrie was 16th out of 130 girls. Kelly Quinn, Caroline Quinn, Ava van Daalen and Anna Dickstein rounded out Weston's scorers in 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th place overall.

The girls junior varsity was second of 10 schools from both divisions. The team is undefeated in Class S and Open competition. The top four scorers all finished in the Top 10, including Katie Disston (third), Emily Robbins (sixth), Claire Cook (seventh) and Alex Fontaine (ninth). Dani Naris and Lily Cook were the other scorers for Weston, whose score of 336.59 was better than five varsity teams.
