Weston Girls Third in Pole Vault at State Open

WESTON, Conn. – Weston junior Emily Savage took third place in the pole vault at Saturday’s State Open Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Savage cleared 11-feet. Staples’ senior Lexie Schachne won with a leap of 11-feet, 6 inches. Newtown’s Lauren O’Connell took second and cleared the same height as Savage. O’Connell took second based on few misses.

Savage’s seeded height was 10-feet, 7-inches. She easily cleared 11 feet, however, and narrowly missed at 11-6. She grazed the bar on her second jump and nearly made it over on her third attempt.

Savage also competed in the long jump and qualified for the high jump but did not compete.

Weston’s sprint medley took 14th with Amanda Matluck, Sydney Allon, Hannah Goodman and Nina Low. The 4 x 200 was 10th with Goodman, Allon, Matluck and Whitney Farber.
