Weston's girls basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season Wednesday against Masuk by burying Bethel, 63-24, behind 23 points by Dakota Sloop on Thursday.
Hannah Hutchins added 13 for Weston , which improved to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in the South-West Conference. Ellie Martin added nine points while Christine Welsh scored seven points, dished out eight assists and grabbed 13 rebounds.
The Trojans dropped their first game of the season Wednesday against Masuk, 46-36. Masuk raced out to a 25-15 halftime lead before the Trojans responded with an 11-2 third-quarter run to draw within 27-26. Masuk then pulled away in the fourth quarter. Martin had 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Welsh had 10 points. Welsh, who is the state leader in steals, had six against Masuk and five against Bethel.
Weston enters a critical point in its schedule. The Trojans meet New Fairfield and Notre Dame of Fairfield next week before a showdown Feb. 1 against Lauralton Hall, which is undefeated in SWC play. Challenges against Pomperaug, Brookfield and Kolbe-Cathedral also await Weston in February.
