WESTON, Conn. – Weston High School’s boys basketball team hopes to continue its underdog run in the state championship game Friday night.

The Trojans defeated No. 6-seeded Enfield, 53-47, in the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class M semifinal Tuesday night. No. 23 Weston will play No. 5 Valley Regional in the finals Friday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.

In Tuesday’s game, senior Charlie DiPasquale led the Trojans with 22 points, and junior Asher Lee-Tyson added 15. On the season, DiPasquale averaged 13.7 points per game and Lee-Tyon averaged 12.7, according to MaxPreps.com. They led Weston in scoring.

So far, Weston has defeated three higher-seeded teams on the road to the finals. Before facing Enfield, Weston beat No. 10 University High, 54-53, to open the tournament. The Trojans also knocked off No. 2 Kaynor Tech, 62-54, on the road Saturday in the quarterfinals.

Friday’s game is the first trip to the finals for Weston since 2007, when the Trojans beat Waterford to win the Class M Championship for the first time in school history.

The Class M championship game begins at 8 p.m. Friday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville. Tickets are available online at the CIAC website.
