Weston 8th Graders Hold On To Edge New Canaan

WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Trojans 8th grade football team beat New Canaan Red, 8-7, on Saturday in its final regular season game.

Weston scored on its  first drive, which was led by the hard running of Tyler Bower. Faced with third down and long, Weston got its touchdown on double reverse to Jack Sawyer, who ran 50 yards for a touchdown. Brendan Sawyer made a great catch on a perfect pass from Nate Slump to give Weston an 8-0 lead.

Weston's ground attack was led by the blocking of Robert Barcello, Daniel Rubin, Max Burdett , Stephen Marshalko,and Joe McGuire. 

New Canaan scored after a long punt return and converted the kick to make the score 8-7 at halftime.

In the second half the Trojans defense shut out New Canaan with a strong team effort. The defensive line was led by Thomas Brentano , Aiden Gomar, Avery Luchetta, Dan McGuire, Francis Okine and Ben Sobol. The defensive backs and linebackers had a very strong game led by Hayden Lawrence, Phoenix Parker, James Goetz and Nate Slump.

New Canaan drove deep into Weston territory late in the fourth quarter, but the Trojan defense held on four consecutive pass plays to seal the victory.
