Vote Now For Ridgefield Luger In Race For Award From U.S. Olympic Committee

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — Ridgefield luger Tucker West has been nominated for the "Male Athlete of December" award by the U.S. Olympic Committee.

Readers can vote for West online. He is one of five athletes in the running for the award.

West won back-to-back gold medals at FIL World Cup events in Lake Placid, N.Y. and Whistler, British Columbia, to maintain a top-10 overall World Cup ranking.  "I'm honored to be a finalist for Team USA Athlete of the month!'' West wrote on Twitter. "Make sure to vote for me :)"

West, 21, competed for the U.S. at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. At 18, he was the youngest male ever to represent the U.S. in men's luge. He finished 22nd in the men's single competition.

West is a sophomore at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. He got started in the sport when his father, Brett, build a backyard track at their home in Ridgefield. 

West is currently ranked sixth in the world and No. 1 among U.S. lugers. He finished in fourth place in his most recent competition in Park City, Utah, where he was nudged off the podium in the final run of the day.

Fans can vote once daily between now and Jan 9.
