WESTPORT, Conn. Staples won the large school division of the Greater Hartford Invitational and Lexie Schachne won the girls' pole vault in the Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y., in another successful weekend for the Wreckers track and field athletes.
Staples ran away with the Hartford title with 117 points, beating Conard by 25. Henry Wynne won the 800 and the Wreckers were second in five other events.
Schachne cleared 11 feet, 9 inches to win in the New York meet, which attracts some of the best athletes in the region. Westons Emily Savage took second with a vault of 11 feet, 6 inches.
Wynne won the 800 in 1:55.06, breaking a meet record that had stood since 1995. He took down the mark of 1:56.3 set by George Williams of Prince Tech. Walker Marsh of Staples finished sixth in the race in 1:59:48.
Max Hoberman took second in the 400 and triple jump, and Matt Mula was second in the pole vault. The 4 x 100 relay of Jon Heil, Max Hoberman, David Hoffman and Zach Mitchell also took second. The 4 x 400 relay of Marsh, Patrick Nolan, Wynne and Heil also finished second.
Ethan Bradeen finished fourth in the high jump, and Hoffman was fourth in the 200, followed by Heil. Colin Davis and Kyle Smith tied for sixth in the high jump, and Tucker Rizzi was sixth in the javelin.
