Staples Top Runner DeBalsi Named Athlete Of The Month By Sports Illustrated

WESTPORT, Conn. -- Staples High School senior Hannah DeBalsi was honored Saturday at a track meet after being selected Sports Illustrated's Athlete of the Month.

DeBalsi, a Stanford-bound runner, was recognized for her achievements and leadership as an exceptional student athlete who has displayed strength and character on and off the field. Click here to read DeBalsi's story in Sports Illustrated.

The award acknowledges not only students’ athletic achievements, but also the sort of exceptional character traits -- perseverance, integrity, academic success, selflessness and sportsmanship -- that make them leaders on the field, in the classroom and throughout their communities. 

Connecticut native Donn Cabral, a 2012 Olympian in the steeplechase, and SI Managing Editor, Chris Stone presented the award to DeBalsi.
