Playing after a long road trip to New Milford on Thursday night, Weston boys lacrosse was ripe for a letdown. The Trojans beat New Milford, but they were overmatched in their annual showdown with Staples, losing for the third year in a row, 10-2.
Staples controlled the game from wire to wire, scoring five times before Jack Scheufele got the Trojans on the board with 6:37 left in the first half. The Wreckers dominated possession of the ball throughout, keeping Weston on defense for much of the contest. Richie Miller scored the Trojans other goal early in the fourth quarter. Alex Peyreigne and Lyle Mitchell had assists for Weston.Peyreigne had 11 saves, and Grant Limone had one for the Trojans.
The loss snaps a three-game Weston winning streak. With two games remaining and a state playoff spot wrapped up, the Trojans will try to improve their seeding in the final matches. Weston hosts Brookfield on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
