Staples pushed home two runs in the top of the seventh inning Friday to defeat Fairfield Warde, 6-4, in a battle of unbeaten teams in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference. The Wreckers improve to 6-0, while the Mustangs drop to 5-1.
Mike Scott singled leading off the inning for Staples. Ben Lipper singled and Brendan Bernstein reached on an error as Scott raced home with the go-ahead run. Bryan Terzian's single scored Lipper.
Scott had two hits and scored two runs. Lipper also had two hits and two runs scored, while Bernstein had two hits and three RBIs. Terzian got the win in relief of Jake Felman. Zach Levins started for Staples.
Staples faces another tough contest Monday when it hosts Westhill at 3 p.m.
