Staples' girls placed eight runners in the top 10 and swept a cross country meet against New Canaan and Fairfield Ludlowe Tuesday at Waveny Park. Staples' boys also won, and added wins over Harding and Brien McMahon.
In complete results , Staples won the girls race 15-50 over New Canaan and 24-37 over Ludlowe. The Falcons' Heather Moriarty won in 15:29 over the 4,000-meter course. Teammate Marisa Klein took third in 16:40. Staples took the rest of the spots in the top 10, led by Ingrid Johnson (16:09) in second place. Emily Hanrahan, Caroline Smith, Alexandra Popkin and Judy Feng followed Klein across the finish line. Staples is 10-3 heading into its final dual meet on Oct. 21 at Greenwich. Danbury and Wilton will also compete.
Staples won a tight race over New Canaan, 26-31, in the boys race. Staples beat McMahon, 19-44; Ludlowe, 21-38, Harding, 15-50 and Warde, 22-37. The Wreckers are 13-1 on the season.
Harry Warnick of Warde won the race, blazing through the 5-kilometer course in 16:35. Staples' Ben Aldrich took second in 16:45 and Chris Madaffari of McMahon was third in 16:53. Jack Roche (seventh overall), Kentaro Higuchi (ninth), Jeff Cafferty (10th) and Dean Hefnawy (15th) were the scorers for the Wreckers.
