DeBalsi won the 2-mile run Saturday at the New England Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston. She won in 10:12.95, smashing the previous record of 10:30.55 set in 2010 by Glastonbury’s Lindsay Crevoiserat.

DeBalsi’s time is the best at the distance in the United States this winter. She also has the top 3,200 meter time in the nation at 10:19.26.

DeBalsi said in a story on MileSplit.com that she has not peaked. “I haven’t cut down my mileage yet. It’s definitely going well,’’ she said. “I am hoping to run faster in outdoor. I am not peaking completely. I am aiming for outdoor.”

Her next race will be the New Balance Indoor Nationals, scheduled for March 14 to 16 in New York City.

DeBalsi’s victory was not the only impressive performance for the Staples girls at the New England event. Tyler Scanlin finished fourth in the 600 in a school record time of 1:35.02. Erica Hefnawy set a school record in the 1,000 at 2:55.48 and finished sixth.
