For the second straight game, Staples boys lacrosse clobbered an out-of-conference opponent at home. After handing Newtown its first loss of the season, the Wreckers had no trouble with defending Class S state champion Weston, winning 10-2 in their regular season home finale.
Staples overmatched the tired-looking Trojans, who had made the long trip to New Milford the previous evening. The Wreckers jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Weston got on the board with 6:37 to play in the first half.
Staples short midfielder, Jake Frimet, led the attack with two goals and two assists, flitting between Weston defenders. Peter Paul netted a hat trick and Charlie Ross added two goals. Kip Orban and Nick Maki rounded out the Staples scoring. Wreckers goalie J.B. Brieg was outstanding in net, collecting 10 saves.
With two regular season games remaining and a state and FCIAC playoff spot already wrapped up, Staples will now try to improve its seeding. The Wreckers (11-3, 6-3 FCIAC) travel to Westhill on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
