Staples Glides Past Trinity

Staples' boys soccer team tuned up for a meeting with unbeaten Brookfield by defeating Trinity Catholic, 7-0, Thursday afternoon in Stamford. The Wreckers improved to 8-2-1 and are unbeaten in their last seven games.

Lorenz Esposito scored Staples' first goal on an assist from defender Jake Malowitz in the game's third minute. Court Lake scored two goals, while Greg Gudis, Brendan Lesch, A.J. Green and Taylor McNair also connected for Staples.

The victory sets up a showdown at 3 p.m. Saturday in Westport. Brookfield, the defending Class L state champions, is 7-0-2 and has won five straight. Brookfield has yielded just three goals in its last five games, and also handed Staples one of its two losses last year, 3-1.
