Staples Girls Track Finishes Unbeaten Season

WESTPORT, Conn. – Staples girls track and field team finished the regular season undefeated Monday, topping Stamford, 117-27, and Norwalk, 118-25. Staples went 11-0 during the dual-meet season to win the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Central Division title for the first time since 2003.

Staples now turn its attention to the league championship meet May 22 at Danbury High School. Darien also went 11-0 during the regular season. All league teams do not compete against one another during the regular season. Staples last victory in the league championship meet came in 1990, according to the league website.

Emily Troelstra won the 100 and 300 hurdles and the 200 for Staples. Caroline Koenig was a two-time winner, taking the 1,600 and 3,200. Mishsa Strage captured the triple jump and long jump, and Alex Popkin won the 800.
