WESTPORT, Conn. ? Top-seeded Glastonbury defeated 20th-seeded Staples in penalty kicks in Saturdays semifinals of the Class LL girls soccer tournament. Glastonbury will meet Trumbull for the state championship next weekend.

Abbey Lake scored with 23:50 left to give the Wreckers (11-6-3) a 1-0 lead. Kayla Oroczo tied it for Glastonbury with just over 14 minutes remaining.
After two 10-minute overtimes, the teams went to penalty kicks. Staples, which went 14-for-19 in penalty kicks in its second-round win over Shelton, misfired on three attempts on Glastonbury. Two went wide and another hit the post.
The loss ended a terrific state tournament run by the Wreckers, who did not even qualify for the league tournament. Staples won three straight road games, knocking off higher seeds each time. Their run included a 2-1 over fifth-seeded Westhill in the quarterfinals.
