Staples finished second in the girls 4 x 800 relay and seventh in the girls 4 x 400 relay in a strong performance at last weekend's Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y.
The girls 4 x 800 team of Alexandra Popkin, Georgia Kursten, Emily Hanrahan and Kristen Weiler ran 9:50.4, trailing only Nanuet, N.Y. The group was only about six seconds behind the school record of 9:44.97 set last year with a group that included Kursten, Hanrahan and Weiler.
Lexie Schachne cleared 11 feet, 0 inches to take fourth place in the pole vault. The 4 x 400 team took seventh with a team of Turner Block, Hanrahan, Courtney Mullen and Ingrid Johnson. They ran 4:07.57 and are a little more than four seconds away from taking down a school record that was set in 1981.
Staples finished up its regular season Monday with a split in a meet against Wilton and Trumbull. Wilton edged the Wreckers, 80-65, while Staples beat Trumbull, 95-53. Staples will run in next week's Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championships at Danbury.
Tuesday's boys track meet at Wilton was postponed by rain. It will be run Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
