Monday's girls ice hockey matchup between Staples High and Wilton High quickly became target practice for the Warriors. Undefeated Wilton outshot Staples a whopping 44-2, shutting out the Wreckers, 6-0.
Staples goalie Gwen Moyer endured a trial by fire but made 37 saves. Without Moyer's commendable performance, the losing margin could have been worse for the Wreckers. Emma Malpeso and Brittany Hamlin got off the only shots on goal for Staples.
Five girls scored for Wilton, with two goals by freshman Samantha Engborg. Staples fell behind quickly when Sammi Blicht scored just 27 seconds into the game. Wilton scored three goals in the span of 1:15 in the first period, quickly putting the game out of reach.
Staples is still searching for its first win in FCIAC play, falling to 0-4 in the division.
