WESTPORT, Conn. Erica Stein scored 21 points as Staples girls basketball team won for the fourth time in five games Tuesday with a 51-48 victory over Trinity Catholic.
Jess Coelho added 15 points for the Wreckers. Mackenzie Griffin scored 18 to lead Trinity Catholic.
Trinity led 9-3 after the first quarter. Staples responded with a 19-6 second quarter run to take a 22-15 halftime lead. The Wreckers led 37-29 after three quarters.
Stein reached double figures for the fourth straight game for the Wreckers. She is averaging 18.4 points per game. Sydney Houseworth added eight for Staples, while Remy Nolan had four steals and four assists.
Ali Palma and Kelli Hurd scored 12 apiece for Trinity (3-2). Staples heads to the Notre Dame Christmas Tournament in Fairfield next week and opens vs. Mansfield, Mass. Trinity will play in a tournament in Plainville.
