Staples Girl Wins Pole Vault at State Open

WESTPORT, Conn. – Lexie Schachne won the pole vault in Saturday’s State Open to lead the performances of Staples girls in the meet at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven.

Schachne, a senior, won the event with a leap of 11 feet, 6 inches. She was the only girl to clear that height. Schachne made three attempts at the state record of 12 feet, 2 inches, but missed each time.

It was the first State Open win for Schachne, who finished second last year. She won the Class LL title for the second straight year last weekend. Schachne also owns the Staples' records in the event in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Schachne was the only girl to score for Staples. The 4 x 800 team of Courtney Mullen, Siobahn O’Loughlin, Georgia Kursten and Alexandra Popkin finished seventh. The 4 x 200 team finished 18th and the 4 x 400 was 13th.
