Staples Boys Tennis Improves to 5-0

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Staples High boys tennis team has jumped out to a 5-0 start as the Wreckers look to defend their state championship.

The Wreckers, who went 19-1 last year, beat Danbury, 7-0, on Thursday. Zack Levin, Baxter Stein, Jason Chaskin, Jake Smith and Brian Saunders recorded singles wins. Steve Thomson and Evan Davis won at first doubles, while Jared Eisenberg and Matt Levantin won at second doubles.

Staples has dropped just two matches in its five victories. Fairfield Ludlowe and Brien McMahon were able to avoid 7-0 shutouts by winning one match each.

Staples meets Ridgefield, Bridgeport Central and Amity next week. The Wreckers’ toughest foes are still on the horizon, with Fairfield Warde (April 24), Greenwich (May 1), Westhill (May 10) and New Canaan (May 15) waiting to challenge the defending Class LL champions.
