Staples' boys soccer team rebounded from an early deficit to defeat Stamford, 4-2, Wednesday in Stamford. The Wreckers improved to 3-2 on the season. Stamford fell to 0-5. Greg Gudis scored two goals for Staples, while Brendan Lesch and Court Lake had one apiece.
Lesch's goal gave Staples an early 1-0 lead. Stamford tied it when Joel Castillo scored on a deflection off a free kick, and took the lead with Castillo's goal eight minutes before halftime.
The Wreckers took control in the second half. Frankie Bergonzi assisted on Gudis' first goal. Court Lake's goal in the 66th minute put Staples ahead to stay, and Lesch and Steve Smith combined to set up Gudis for an insurance goal less than three minutes later.
Sophomore Lorenz Esposito played well and goalie James Hickock made three saves. Stamford's Yeisson Llanos made 10 saves in goal.
