Breaking News: Man, 23, Charged With Making Bomb Threat To Trumbull High School

Staples Boys Lacrosse Aims To Stay on Top

After years of middling success, the Staples High School boys varsity lacrosse team exploded onto the state scene last year, going a perfect 16-0 in the regular season. But the Wreckers' undefeated record did not translate in the postseason, as Staples was upset by St. Joseph in the FCIAC quarterfinals and by Fairfield Prep in the Class L state semifinals. With no hardware to show for its incredible 2010 season, Staples will be sure to play with a chip on its shoulder this year.

In the video, head coach Paul McNulty talks about what made that undefeated squad so special and how this year's edition will live up to the standard set by that team. He also said the success of the undefeated 2010 team led to an explosion in the popularity of lacrosse in Westport. McNulty said the Westport youth lacrosse program grew by more than 100 members this year and the high school added 10 new players.

Staples opens its season at Testa Field in Norwalk on Thursday, April 7, at 7 p.m. The Wreckers host their first home game Saturday, April 9, against Fairfield Ludlowe.
