The two games were close when the Staples' boys basketball team lost to Ridgefield during the regular season. In Wednesday's Class LL second round game, Ridgefield made sure it didn't come down to the wire again, winning 67-48.
Gabe Seidman scored 12 points for the 12th-seeded Wreckers, who finish their season 16-7. No. 5 Ridgefield advances to play No. 4 Holy Cross in Friday's quarterfinals.
Ridgefield led 29-20 at halftime and was up 48-34 after three quarters. Bryan Galvin scored 22 points for the Tigers, who beat Staples by a combined five points in two previous games.
Jake Felman added 11 points for Staples, and Luke Yeager scored 10. And Staples had one of its most successful seasons ever, winning 11 of 13 games before Wednesday's loss. Among its wins this season were victories over traditional Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference powers Stamford, Trinity Catholic, Harding and Bridgeport Central. Staples finished one game behind Westhill in the race for the West Division title.
