Pole Vault Record Falls as Staples Sweeps

Lexie Schachne set a school record in the pole vault as the Staples High girls track team celebrated Senior Day on Monday by sweeping Trumbull and Westhill. The Wreckers defeated Trumbull, 78-65, and Westhill, 113-28.

Schachne, a junior, cleared 12 feet, 0 inches to win the pole vault. She broke her own record, which she set earlier this year. Schachne also had a personal best in the high jump at 5 feet, 2 inches, and the 100 in 12.6.

Other highlights for Staples included wins by Turner Block in the 100 (12.5) and 400 (61.6). Caitlin Hartmann took second in the 100 and won the 200 in 27.0. Ingrid Johnson (800, 2:23.9), Georgia Kursten (1,600, 5:26.6), Caroline Koenig (3,200, 12:05.1) and Sydney Friedman (javelin, 74 feet, 5 inches) also won individual events for Staples.

The 4 x 400 team also won with Alexandra Popkin, Courtney Mullen, Tyler Scanlin and Ingrid Johnson.
