After coming up short against defending champion the 20, 30, 40 Somethings for five years, Peter's Spirits finally defeated their rivals in the Weston Women's Softball League. The win did not come easily, however, as Peter's Spirits had to come from behind three times for a 10-9 victory.
It took some late-inning heroics to seal the win. Center fielder Julie Baisley gunned down a potential insurance run for the Somethings, with catcher Amy Mirchandani applying a nifty tag at the plate. Laura Maloney and Valerie Saltzman led off the bottom of the seventh with back-to-back hits bringing Baisley to the plate. Baisley ripped the game-winning double for Peter's Spirits.
Peter's Spirits trailed 3-1 after the first and 4-2 after the second. The offense kicked into gear in the fourth, plating four runs to take the lead, 6-4. The Spirits' pitching could not close the door on the game, though, as the Somethings pushed across three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 9-8 lead.
Spectators are encouraged to watch the Weston Women's Softball League play every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night at 6:15 p.m. at the Onion Barn and North House fields.
