NFL's Silas Redd Aims To Help Norwalk's Needy With 'Threads' Clothing Drive

NORWALK, Conn. — NFL running back Silas Redd returned to his hometown of Norwalk on Saturday to help out his old friends at the G.W. Carver Community Center.

The center hosted the first annual Silas Redd "Threads For the City" Clothing Drive & Swap to help the needy in Norwalk.

Redd, a running back for the Washington Redskins, started the drive due to his love of clothes, and his desire to give back to his hometown.

"I grew up here, in this community center, and I just wanted to do something for the city," Redd told Daily Voice. "Me being in the NFL gave me an amazing opportunity to help improve my city, and help with something I think is great, which is contributing clothes to those who are less fortunate. I'm really glad I can be out here and do this for Norwalk."

Redd couldn't help but smile as he watched kids run around the center, looking at clothing and sneakers. 

"I was in those shoes," he said. "I understand where they're coming from. ... Everything I'm doing, hopefully, is relatable to them."

Redd missed the last NFL season due to an injury but expects to be fully recovered by summer. He has high hopes for next fall, which will be his third NFL season.

Norwalk DJ Juelz provided music for the clothing drive.
