Pierre-Louis, 25, was diagnosed with depression in 2012, according to the story in the Seattle Times and written by Jayson Jenks. Pierre-Louis, who played in high school at King in Stamford, was in his junior year at Boston College when he was diagnosed with depression.
Pierre-Louis said he was nervous about discussing depression because he was concerned about the reaction of fans and teammates. But he was not uncomfortable. “It’s not for them,’’ Pierre-Louis said in the story. “It’s for the person who needs it.”
Pierre-Louis is in his third season with Seattle. He was drafted in the fourth round in the 2014 NFL Draft after a spectacular career at Boston College, where he started all 44 games. He started one game with Seattle last year. This year, he has made two tackles and is a reserve linebacker.
Pierre-Louis said he was concerned about reaction, but wrote a tweet that indicated he had been receiving mostly positive support. “Thank you for all the positivity,’’ Pierre-Louis said. “I feel it’s important to share our scars and let those who think they are alone know they aren’t.”
