Breaking News: Westport Inn, Restaurant To Make Changes To Comply With ADA, DOJ Says

New Golf Halfway House Opens On Westport Course

WESTPORT, Conn. – Hot dogs, hamburgers, breakfast and deli sandwiches, ice cream and drinks are some of the items golfers and other visitors to Westport Longshore Club Park can get at Cliff's Place, the new halfway house located near the ninth green of the golf course.

Named in the memory of Cliff Ross, a Westport resident and avid golfer who died two years ago, the 750-square-foot, farmhouse-style building was unveiled to the public Tuesday during a dedication ceremony.

The building features a dining area boasting four double windows and two skylights, allowing sunlight to flood in; a kitchen operated by Joey’s by the Shore; a covered porch with three wooden benches; and fully accessible bathrooms. The structure also has a bronze plaque dedicated to Ross.

The new facility is the first permanent halfway house on the course since the original one was destroyed by fire in 2003. The food trailer that served as a temporary concession area will be removed next week, said Mark Holod, chairman of the 9th & ½ Hole Committee, the volunteer group that raised more than $200,000 for the construction of the new halfway house.

The bathroom facility behind the food trailer, the only surviving portion of the original halfway house, will also be removed, Holod said.

Groundbreaking for the facility was in March.
