Staples Joselyn Henry broke a 35-year-old school record in the shot put and the boys team finished second to highlight performances by Wreckers athletes at Tuesdays Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference track meet at Danbury High School.
Henry won the shot put with a heave of 39 feet, 7 inches. She also took second in the long jump and fourth in the discus. Staples took second in the 4 x 400 relay and third in the 4 x 800 relay. Ingrid Johnson took third in the 400. Staples finished fifth with 51 points, while Danbury took team honors with 176.5.
The boys team finished second in a tight race with Danbury. The Hatters finished with 139 points, while the Wreckers took second with 120.5. Staples picked up three individual victories and one relay victory.
Paul Chandler tied his school record in the pole vault with a leap of 15 feet, 0 inches. Raphael Ray raced to victory in the 400, running 49.18, and Devin Graber took the shot put with a heave of 46 feet, nine inches. The unit of Jon Heil, Sean Gallagher, Jack Roche and Ray won the 4 x 400 relay in 3:23.00.
