Former UConn Star Shoots for Easton Clinic

EASTON, Conn. – Former University of Connecticut basketball star Craig Austrie will teach young players how to take their skills to the next level at a basketball clinic at the Easton Community Center.

Austrie, who graduated from UConn in 2009, is a former player for the Springfield Armor in the NBA Development League. He was named First Team All-state in 2004 and 2005, the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2005 and was a starting player in the 2009 Final Four with UConn.

At the clinic, set for Nov. 26, Austrie and his staff will focus on all aspects of shooting. “I am looking forward to bringing my basketball development program to Easton," he said. "Since January 2010, when I started my program, I have worked with children throughout Fairfield County and Westchester, New York, and 93 percent of those children that I have worked with have made their basketball teams.”

“It feels great to be able to give back to the children of Connecticut. As a former Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year and UConn guard, I look forward to taking the kids through a number of drills that helped me take my game to the next level,” Austrie said.

The clinic will be held at the Easton Community Center from 2 to 5 p.m. It is open to all area middle school and high school players. The clinic cost $90 for center members and $100 for nonmembers. Registration deadline is Nov. 24.
