EASTON, Conn. Former University of Connecticut basketball star Craig Austrie will teach young players how to take their skills to the next level at a basketball clinic at the Easton Community Center.
Austrie, who graduated from UConn in 2009, is a former player for the Springfield Armor in the NBA Development League. He was named First Team All-state in 2004 and 2005, the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2005 and was a starting player in the 2009 Final Four with UConn.
At the clinic, set for Nov. 26, Austrie and his staff will focus on all aspects of shooting. I am looking forward to bringing my basketball development program to Easton," he said. "Since January 2010, when I started my program, I have worked with children throughout Fairfield County and Westchester, New York, and 93 percent of those children that I have worked with have made their basketball teams.
It feels great to be able to give back to the children of Connecticut. As a former Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year and UConn guard, I look forward to taking the kids through a number of drills that helped me take my game to the next level, Austrie said.
The clinic will be held at the Easton Community Center from 2 to 5 p.m. It is open to all area middle school and high school players. The clinic cost $90 for center members and $100 for nonmembers. Registration deadline is Nov. 24.
