Fairfield Girls Play for District Softball Title

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield's 12-year-old softball team meets Black Rock on Tuesday for the District 2 tournament championship.

Fairfield, the defending district champion, lost to Black Rock during pool play. Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Unity Park in Trumbull. Fairfield advanced with a 12-1 win over Trumbull in the semifinals, while Black Rock defeated Westport, 12-2. Black Rock is undefeated in the tournament. Tuesday's winner advances to the Section 1 tournament, which begins Thursday.

In the District 2 baseball tournament, Fairfield American and Fairfield National are 4-0 in pool play in the 12-year-old tournament. Fairfield American plays Trumbull American Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Blackham School in Bridgeport. Trumbull American is also 4-0. Fairfield National plays Stratford on Wednesday at 5:30 at Blackham. Both games are the final games in pool play for the Fairfield teams. The double-elimination phase of the tournament begins next Monday.

Westport, which stands at 2-2 in the tournament, meets North End of Bridgeport in its final pool play game Tuesday at 5:30 at Blackham. Westport and Trumbull National are tied with 2-2 marks in the Red Division. If Westport wins on Tuesday, it will qualify for the double-elimination round.

In the 11-year-old tournament, Fairfield National and Fairfield American are 2-0. In the 10-year-old tournament, Westport is 4-0 and has allowed just two runs. Fairfield American and Fairfield National are both 3-1. The 10-year-old championship is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. at Unity Park.
