Westport Rowers Named To U.S. Team For World Junior Meet

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Rowers from Darien, Westport, Ridgefield and Norwalk River Rowing Association were named Monday to the United States team that will compete in the World Rowing Junior Championships next month in Brazil.

The U.S. team includes Darien’s David Orner and Julie Cornacchia, Ridgefield’s Kaitlyn Kynast, Westport’s Oliver Bub and Lucas Manning, and Kris Petreski, a member of the Norwalk River Rowing Association.

Orner, who rows for Maritime Rowing Club in Norwalk, will compete on the Men’s Quad Sculls along with Petreski.

Bub and Manning, who rowing for Saugatuck Rowing Club, will compete in the Men’s Pair.

Cornacchia, who rows for Darien and the Norwalk-based Connecticut Boat Club, will row on the Women’s Eight. Kynast, a Ridgefield and Cornacchia’s teammate at CBC, will compete on the Women’s Four.

Thirteen crews will represent the U.S. at the world meet, which is scheduled for Aug. 5-9 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The U.S. coaching staff includes Saugatuck Rowing Club’s Sharon Kriz, CBC’s Liz Trond and Guenter Beutter of GMS Rowing Center in New Milford and a Wilton resident.
