Joel Barlow's girls basketball team edged Masuk, 37-35, Saturday in a game that came down to defensive play at the end. It was the lady Falcons first win over the Panthers since 2006.
The game was tight until the final buzzer, with several lead changes in the second half. The Falcons started slow but cut the Panthers lead to one point by the half. Barlow held tight until the end, staving off last minute efforts with a strong defensive push.
Brittany Dumas led the Falcons with 16 points, seven of them coming from the foul line in the last quarter. Sarah McAniff had seven points and six rebounds. Drew Bartro scored four points, had three blocks and led in rebounds with nine. Rachel Schenck scored two points, pulled down six rebounds and had four blocks.
Taylor Auer, Ellie MacGregor, Delaney Bracken and Kelly Haines combined for eight points.
Barlow improved to 6-4 overall and 2-4 in the South-West Conference. Barlow heads to Oxford on Jan. 25.
