“We are very happy that the Connecticut Whale and the National Women’s Hockey League are returning to Stamford,” said Stamford Mayor David Martin. “Terry Conners is a great location for the Whale – right at the heart of our hockey community. Their return will give our young hockey players new, excellent role models who they will be able to see play in person. What a great opportunity.”

Located in Cove Island Park, Terry Conners Ice Rink opened in 1973 and is owned and operated by the city of Stamford. The facility is home to Stamford Youth Hockey, the Skating Club of Southern Connecticut, Stamford, Westhill and Trinity High School hockey teams and many other programs.

Capacity for Whale games at Terry Conners Ice Rink will be 2,000.

“As our league continues to evolve, we are constantly evaluating what’s best for our fans, players and the league’s visibility, and the move to Stamford is unquestionably the right one for the Whale,” said NWHL Commissioner Dani Rylan.

Connecticut’s first-year head coach Ryan Equale said, “Having grown up in nearby Wilton and having worked in Stamford, I believe Terry Conners is the perfect rink for the Connecticut Whale. It’s in an ideal location and has easy access off the highway, ample parking and excellent facilities. I’m excited to have the Whale in Stamford with its wonderful people and great restaurants and shopping. With so many passionate hockey fans in the community, I’m confident that we’ll be able to build a strong following.”

Connecticut played its first season in Stamford at Chelsea Piers, and second season at Northford Ice Pavilion.

“On behalf of my teammates, we are extremely excited to move back to our inaugural season home in Stamford,” said Connecticut Whale defender Anya Battaglino, who is director of the NWHL Players’ Association. “It was great to spend last season in Northford because we were able to connect with the fans in central Connecticut and we really enjoyed working with the terrific staff at Northford Ice Pavilion. We thank the venue and the fans for everything they did for us. Now we can’t wait to hit the ground running at Terry Conners. It’s going to be a very successful season three for the Whale and the NWHL in Connecticut.”

The Whale’s 2017-18 schedule and information regarding season tickets and individual game sales will be available at a later date.
