Connecticut Hall Of Famer Honors Former Staples HS Soccer Stars

WESTPORT, Conn. – Former Staples High School Wreckers soccer stars Steve Baumann an Ken Murphy will be honored by the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame on Jan. 30 in Cromwell, according to the Westport News.

Baumann led Staples to a 43-3-3 record before graduating in 1970, going on to score 30 goals for the University of Pennsylvania and playing in the North American Soccer League (NASL), the News noted.

Murphy led the Wreckers to three FCIAC titles and a 1973 state title, playing at the University of Connecticut and having a brief NASL career of his own, reported the Westport News.

Baumann is now the chairman of the Discovery Museum in Bridgeport and Murphy coaches at Connecticut College in New London, the News said.
