Bassick outscored Staples 26-21 in the final period Friday night to rally for a 78-74 victory in Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference boys basketball action. Bassick improved to 7-1 overall and 7-0 in the league, while Staples fell to 5-4 and 4-3.
Staples built a 32-30 halftime lead and was up 53-52 entering the final period. The Wreckers built their advantage largely on their outside shooting, as they buried 12 3-pointers. Gabe Seidman led the way for Staples with 24 points, while Luke Yeager added 15.
Bassick shut off the perimeter in the final period and found its own offense, scoring 26 points in the final eight minutes. Kyle Greer scored 16 points to pace five players in double figures. Jamill Powell scored 14 for the Lions, while Ter'qwan Perkins (11), Devin Coleman (12) and Rondell Jones (11) also reached double figures.
Jake Felman added 10 for Staples, while Mike Argosh and Rob DiBartolomeo added nine apiece.
Staples visits Darien Tuesday and Norwalk Thursday.
